Prize Draw
Competitions
Prize Draws are the most basic
form of consumer competition. At their simplest, all
that is required is for you to supply your name and details
(address, telephone number, email etc) on a postcard or an
official entry form. Others, may
require that you supply further details on the Entry Form in
the form of a simple survey-style questionnaire.
Whatever, the winner is chosen by simple random chance by
drawing the winning entry out of a hat.
Increase You Chances
Obviously the more entries you
put in, the greater your chance of winning. But you do
need to be careful here. Read the small print carefully
to see if multiple entries are permitted. Sometimes if
may say one entry per person, in which case your whole
resident family can enter, providing they fulfil the other
criteria, which may of course give age limitations.
Other times it says one entry per household, then you'll
have to negotiate with friends and neighbours to increase
chance. If you are able to put in several entries it is
best to stagger their postage. There is a school of
thought which suggests only one mailbag will be selected by
the judges, so make sure one of your entries is in it!

Get Noticed
Enter your free prize draws
using coloured or picture postcards. You need not go to great
expense buying them, as they can be frequently found as free
samples in many places, e.g. Boomerang advertising postcards
are found in cinema foyers and some public houses. We
have also found free postcards in building societies and
chemists where again they are used for advertising. You can
also use coloured envelopes for completed entry forms, but
this will only be of use if the judges are likely to select
the winner without opening it, eg., where the terms and
conditions state 'one entry per stamped addressed envelope'.
Postage
The price of posting all your
entries is of course a consideration. You will need to
set yourself a budget and stick to it. But target your
greatest efforts on those competitions which were most
difficult to find. These are the ones which have the
greatest chance of success. You should of course send
your entries in by second class, to reduce expense, but do
remember to allow enough time for them to get there, if you
miss the closing date then your entry is wasted. It is
also a good idea to stock up on second class stamps before
postal cost increase, as your stamps will take on the new
value. |
