How To Win
These are our eight top tips to help you
win
1. Organise Yourself
A
dictionary, a thesaurus, a rhyming dictionary, plastic and
cardboard wallets, sticky labels and a high quality pen are
all essential. Keep track of your competitions by organising
them into plastic wallets labelled with their closing date.
Include in this the entry form/s, the qualifier, initial
ideas and your final slogan list, highlighting the one/s you
entered. At the end of each month file your competition
wallets into a cardboard wallet, labelled with the month, so
that you can refer to them in the future, if a similar
competition comes along or if you win!
Finally a decent pen is essential,
it is no good spending hours refining your slogan if the
judges can't read it.
2.
Read The Small Print
Make sure
you comply with all the instructions, from answering questions
(sometimes you can get so involved with the slogan that you
forget to answer the easiest question!), through completing
your name and address, to the box you might have to tick to
say you have enclosed the qualifier!. Unless specifically
requested do not attach the qualifier to the entry form and
don't forget to circle or highlight the specific qualifying
purchase on the till receipt itself. Finally make sure
you do not have multiple entries unless allowed to do so, many
competitions state one one entry per person/household.
Don't risk getting disqualified.
3. Be Vigilant
Never miss an
opportunity when it comes to elusive qualifiers, remember the
more obscure the competition, the fewer the entrants. If you
find it difficult to find a qualifier you should celebrate,
when others give up your perseverance will pay off. Rejoice if
you have to buy iguana eye drops, as this means a low entry
competition, and if you don't win you could always buy an
iguana.
4. Have Fun
Don't try
too hard, don’t spoil the fun by trying to squeeze that
masterpiece from the deep recesses of your brain. Allocate
about 1-2 hours a session on set days to pursue your hobby,
and don't spend the whole time devoted to one competition.
Spend about 10 to 15 minutes on one competition, and if
nothing comes, then move on to the next.
Remember, comping is supposed to
be fun,
keep
yourself fresh, there’s always another day.
